An Unusual Cause of Recurrent Chylothorax: Gorham Syndrome
نویسندگان
چکیده
Gorham syndrome, which is also called diffuse lymphangiomatosis, is characterised by excessive osteolysis due to uncontrolled lymphatic or vascular proliferation involving bones, of unknown etiology. Chylothorax may accompany Gorham syndrome in case of invasion of lymphatic vessels, or thoracic duct due to neighboring affected ribs, scapula or vertebrae. Chylothorax and vertebral invasion is seen in 1720% of patients. Even though there are many different suggested treatment modalities; Gorham syndrome with chylothorax has a very high morbidity and mortality.[1-3] This case report presents a patient with Gorham syndrome and chylothorax who was treated successfully with interferon alpha-2b.

Recurrent chylothorax: a clinical mystery
Chylothorax is an unusual cause of pleural effusion, typically caused by trauma or malignancy. Waldenstrom's macroglobulinaemia (WM) is a clinicopathological entity demonstrating lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma in the bone marrow with an IgM monoclonal gammopathy in the blood. Recurrent chylous effusions are often resistant to conservative treatment and may require surgical intervention. We present ...
متن کاملGorham disease: an intraoperative case study.
Gorham disease is a rare chronic disorder that is characterized by the abnormal proliferation of thin-walled capillaries and small lymphatic vessels that results in the massive osteolysis of adjacent bone. Clinical manifestations are determined by the area of involvement, which may include the chest and ribs. The case presented involves a 47-year-old man with Gorham disease complicated by unila...
متن کاملA Rare Case of Sudden-Onset Respiratory Distress in an Infant
Chylothorax is an unusual cause of pleural effusion after the neonatal period in children without a previous history of cardiothoracic surgery. Determination of the causes of this condition can be often challenging. Herein, we present a case of a 6-month-old male infant, presenting with sudden severe breathlessness, which was later diagnosed as spontaneous left-sided chylothorax.
متن کاملA Successfully Treated Case of Gorham-Stout Syndrome with Sternal Involvement
Gorham-Stout Syndrome (GSS) is a rare disease characterized by localized bone resorption. Any part of the skeleton may be affected; therefore, symptoms can vary depending on the site involved. Pathological analysis reveals lymphovascular proliferation and osteolysis in the affected lesion, but the etiology of the disease is poorly understood. When GSS occurs in the chest, chylothorax or respira...
